October 2008 Newsletter

26th– 28th September – Marsden Cricket Club where at least we knew we had some hard standing if the weather was bad. Surprising the weekend was dry and sunny and the vans came rolling in, usually this is a smallish turnout but 40 vans made the trip.

Friday night the club house was open and Maureen & Denis celebrated their wedding anniversary by providing members with a pea & pie supper, the rest of the evening was a free and easy with a game of bingo.

Saturday most people visited the town of Marsden for shops and hostelries, at teatime the local chip shop opened specially and everyone had fish & chips courtesy of the club funds. we had the bottle game which cause some amusement, the evening being topped off by the committee announcing that they would also get a free rally. Thanks to Dave and Sue for hosting a great rally.

17th– 19th October – A.G.M. at Driffield Showground, one of our more popular venues. Friday night was a free and easy as some vans were late arriving, but the statutory game of bingo was played with members then catching up on all the gossip. Saturday morning members went down into Driffield to stock up for the faith supper to be held that evening. We were entertained by artiste Mr Mal Layne who sang songs from 50s, 60s and his speciality Engleburt Humperdink. A good night was had by all.

Sunday morning we held our A.G.M. during which some members of the old committee resigned, but luckily some stepped into the breach, we still only have a small committee so it would be appreciated if more Yorkshire members would come forward to be co-opted onto the committee and help share the load.

We welcomed new Yorkshire members Peter & Yvonne Hollingwell.

All in all a very satisfactory Rally with 63 vans attending. Thanks to all who
