Jan 2008 Newsletter

28th December to 2nd January saw us at Pickering for our new year holiday rally.

The first night (Friday) we were entertained by ex Applejack front man Stuart Jackson who had people up on the dance floor, this was followed by a free & easy with music provided by our Graham.

Saturday people ventured into Pickering & some went on the steam train.

In the evening we had more entertainment with 50s & 60s group Reunited who gave us three great sets throughout the night. They enrolled two extra musicians for one song; Sarah & Des who rocked along with the rest of the group, Sarah being voted best stand in by the audience. It was great to hear total live music which was appreciated by everybody as the dance floor was full.

Sunday, after a coffee morning we enjoyed another lazy day around Pickering with some venturing on to Whitby for the day. In the evening Pete worked hard providing us with a fun games night (never known as many cheats as in the caravan drive game).

New Years Eve was an early start for Keith & his team preparing the evening's buffet, which was well appreciated by everybody, a fantastic display with quality to match. (well up to Gordon Ramsey's standard). After we had the usual bingo, then partied the night away with music provided by Graham. Keith provided us with a great set which broke the ice & had people up on the dance floor. Just before the bells we had a visit from a ginger haired man from north of the border, Mr Alan McStead who piped in the New Year.We then had the arrival of the New Year baby, looked very familiar, just like a young Des.

A late start the next day saw some people leave, at night we were treated to the buffet again & had a steady night to recover.

Many thanks to all the committee & the many volunteers who helped to make this a very enjoyable event, which I am sure, will be repeated.

49 Vans attended. (One large red van had to be turned away as they tried to get away with showing a Yorkshire fire service card to gain entry, but that's another story, for more info, ask Sheila ).

SELBY . We were met Friday by rain, with everyone heading for the high ground to avoid the puddles. A free & easy night with a music quiz and the usual bingo was held.

Saturday people ventured into Selby for the shops and pubs. At night we held a theme tune quiz. A buffet was laid on for Steve's birthday. The night was finished off by Genet racing, which everyone enjoyed. Many thanks to Elsie for the work in providing & running this game.

A big thanks to Annette & Tommy for hosting.

Welcome to new members Dave & Monica Shoesmith.

27 vans in total, 1 Northern Counties, 1 Lancashire, 1 East Yorkshire, 24 Yorkshire.
